: Use the "tape record out" from the amp, use a cable that has RCA plugs on one end and a single stereo mini-type on the other, and put it into the mic input. Or you can get an external sound card that has RCA inputs and an USB ouput that you run into an USP port. I have done both and there appears to be little difference in sound quality.

I have a new Powerbook (15", OSX, 10.2.8) and I am interested in converting LP's to MP3. Is additional software required? Also, should the input come from the output of the turntable itself or the stereo receiver into which it is currently connected?
