Hi, I just went through the same issue with an xp-80, and I feel you might have had the same issue as I did. The issue comes from the fact that standard PC drives use the IBM interface, whereas I believe the Roland uses the older SHUGART interface. To get a standard Mitsumi PC floppy drive to work, I had to
cut the floppy cable for pin 12, and send the cable from pin 12 drive side right to ground. This makes the motor active at all times when a disk is in there, but it works fine. I think, actually, that the motor is active all the time on these units with the standard drive in it. Is that right?? Thanks. Hope this helps.
