: I'm no pro at Sonar, but I have used fruityloops since it was a beta at version 1 and I also have reason and a host of other smaller programs that I used to combine the music of reason, fruityloops, and cakewalk 9. - All this was very time consuming, not to mention having to master the many aspects of converting to different programs.
: Well I recently found the money to purchase Sonar, and after using a friends Cubase SX I was VERY happy that I decided to go with Sonar!. I have been making music since the early 90's with software and I bought me a new computer in 2000 to support my habit. - I have a pentium 433, which is very very old, but I have updated it with windows me, and now windows XP. - I have also upgraded the ram from 32mb to 64mb - Which is NO-WHERE NEAR the amount of ram or CPU speed you are supposed to have to run powerhouse applications.
: Well I upgraded to 64mb in 2001 and it was over 100 dollars at the time. Now 128mb is just a little over 60 dollars. - so I plan on just upgrading my computer since technology has made everything so much cheaper.
: Anyway, back to what I was saying. - I bought SONAR and keep in mind my computer specs.. - SONAR runs Amazingly SMOOTH on my old 433 with 64mb of ram running Windows XP.
: Playing with Sonar is Amazing as opposed to playing with cubase. I easily set up everything in Sonar - But there was one problem. Drum Loops.
: I have used MIDI type drum sequencers and they work great! but they are a headache to deal with to me after using something so easy as fruityloops.
: I have fruityloops 1, 3 and 4.0. and well, I found you can use fruityloops in Sonar because Sonar has DXI support! which means if you have a Fruityloops version which supports the DXI plug-ins, you can add Fruityloops to Sonar VIA DXI Plugin. - So open up sonar, and go to ADD TRACK - and select DXI SYNTH - FrutyLoops DXI should be under those plugins somewhere. - once you choose this it will insert fruityloops, - now you can open up fruityloops.
: The "hard" part is that you must set-up Fruityloops by first setting up the tempo you want (I used the default of 140.00) - Create a simple steady Metronome beat using a kick* - now go back to Sonar and make Music Based off of that Metronome beat from Fruityloops (now you can make this beat anything you want, but I always use a simple kick and snare). - When you hit play in Sonar it will play the beat you just made in fruityloops. (another thing you may want to do is also change the tempo in sonar to 140.00 as well) - I simply create a song off of that simple beat. - then go back in fruityloops and work on it until it sounds like I want it. - you will FINALLY have the perfect mix of Drums AND instruments. - it sounds Wonderful if you mix Fruityloops drums correctly, - Fruityloops can damage the quality of SONAR if you let it, so use beats that live up to the sound quality of Sonar - Or Master individually the drums you used in fruityloops in making the song you did in Sonar.
: I hope this helped some of you out there. - It has been a dream for me to create a nice drum sequence in fruityloops and also add the flexability of playing keyboards and guitars in Cakewalks line of products.
: I have wrote other comments on the internet dealing with the programs Fruityloops and Reason.. Both are amazing products but lack what each other is strong in. - I am just waiting for the day that Reason will add a fruityloops drum sequencer with the powerful Playlist feature that really makes Fruityloops stand out as the ultimate drum machine. - If they do this, I think they will finally be able to play with the big boys and perhaps beat some of them.
: Fruityloops on the other hand has been toying around, trying their best to make fruityloops something that it isn't, which is a complete STUDIO. - it makes wonderful drum patterns as we all know, but it falls short, (although not much) when it comes to playing instruments FREELY in fruityloops.. - mainly because they try their best to make it easy for the user to add keyboards and guitars that somehow go along with the beats those users have created.. Which is Great for Novices and even experts, but the freedom of the sequencers of Cakewalk, Reason, Sonar, Cubase, Logic - and many others make fruityloops sequencer a little, well, fruity.....
: With that being said - Have a Wonderful Life Making Music!
