Re: Melosoftron vs GigaSampler

Re: Melosoftron vs GigaSampler

: I use melosofton in my studio, and it works great. I have also used GigaSampler which is a much higher end sampler. Giga sampler has a tighter responce, but it costs $700 +. Melosoftron is much easier to use, and since I track using a DAW, I can always slip a track back in time to correct the latency problem. Melosoftron is Great for Workstation based studios such as mine, but for Tape based tracking, I wouldn't recomend it (since you can't compensate for the Latency of the responce). For those that are not clear on what it does, Melosoftron allows you to take a wav file, and use it as an instrument. I normally use 44.1 Stereo files, and feed them back into my paris DAW via the SPDIF output of my AWE64 Gold, and I get HI-Quality tracking without the analog hissing. GigaSampler sounds a little better, but you have to have a dedicated 266+ MMX unit with High End hard drives, and 64+ Mb RAM. I run Melosoftron on the same unit as my PARIS Workstation (Which is convenient, because all of the MIDI routing is internal to the unit), and I have no problems. 200 MHz (Non MMX) with 96 Mb RAM.

: By the way the PARIS is a great workstation!!!

For me, theres just no competition between the two, like most die-hard analogue synth people i guess i had a real dislike of samplers (and sample based music), soft samplers were just the same only worse!. i tried 'Melosoftron and was appalled at it's awkwardness, clunky design and generally, in my view incompetence.
I had no higher expectations of gigasampler before i tried it but its totally won me over!,
it may lack some polish in the graphic department by some peoples reckoning but the quality, latency and reliability are excellent.
(ps i don't work for or have any association with nemesys!).
