The reason the card cannot operate under windows 2k or xp is that the HAL in those operating systems will not permit direct control of the hardware which is necessary to switch between sound card modes. I am not sure of the archeteture of linux so I can't say whether or not it will work under linux or not. The last discussion I read is people were trying to get information from the manufaturer on the chip programing so they could write a linux driver but were not having much success.
