heartbeat sounds to EKG

I understand this website has the capability of converting heartbeat sounds into an EKG display on one's computer screen. I'm interested in exactly how one does this and also if a live heartbeat sound transmission via computer mic can achieve the same result, i.e., a live EKG printout from the audio sounds.
