use
system>administration>synaptics package manager
its all there...
1.click on search
2.search for the desired program by typing its name in the text box
3.mark to install by right clicking and then left clicking mark
4.click on apply in the main window
watch it install!!!!!!!!
find the new program under the applications tab
click on it
it opens
errr, isn't that easier than windows?
if you are new to linux i suggest you use a user friendly distro with a helpful community. one good example is ubuntu although there are others i find it best for beginners.
