The Australian Music Monolith was first the first web site of its kind in Australia
and was launched back in August 1995 and quickly became one of the most popular
web sites devoted to Australian Music.
For the first time net surfers could easily find most online information about Australian music simply by coming to one central location. The site was continually updated until October 1996 and as a result the 1,000+ links contained in it provide an excellent snap shot of the beginnings of the online music business in Australia. By the end of 1996 the Internet had moved on a great deal and the need for a site like this was no longer as strong as it had been originally so a decision had to be made about whether or not to keep it going. After much thought and agonising over the possibility of removing this site we decided to keep it online in its original form as an historical exhibit. So please feel free to look around and marvel at what the Australian online music scene was like in the early days of the Internet. |
