Why the different colored Dots?

When the coloured dots are next to links they tell you whether or not the link is 'Australian'.

Links with Blue Dots preceding them lead to Australian Sites or Sites with Australian Content.

Links with Red Dots preceding them are links to sites other than ones we consider to be Australian.

Who put the Monolith here and Why?

Who

Musicians Contact Service is a Music Industry Consultancy in Brisbane Australia who created the Monolith. Musicians Contact Service provide a placement service for Bands and Musicians as well as Management & Marketing consultancy services for Artists, Managers and Record Labels.

Why

Back in August 1995 there were a lot of great directories in printed form and also heaps of fantastic Australian Music Web sites that had pointers to other places but there was nothing on the World Wide Web that could be considered a comprehensive directory of Australian Music Web Sites.

Musicians Contact Service began building one for their own use and decided to put it on line to help others as well. The Email then started flowing in requesting all sorts of information directly and indirectly related to music, and it just blossomed from there!

Australian Music Monolith was then taken over by Hitsquad in May 1996 and continued to operate until October that year.

What Can I do to make the Monolith Faster?

We use a standard set of graphics, most of which are all on the main Contents page, so that when you go from page to page your browser will already have a copy of most of the graphics on each page (the charts page is the main exception).

Please make sure you let the whole of the contents page arrive, you will only have to do this once and it shouldn't take too long (depending on the amount of traffic on the internet at the time of course).

To ensure the Monolith is quick to load on subsequent visits make sure you have your Browser's 'Cache' directory properly set (refer to the help section of your browser).
