LiveJournal user alleges Jet stole her photo for their video

A user of internet journal website, LiveJournal.com, alleges that rock band Jet used one of her images in their video clip for Rip It Up without her permission.

"Waking up bleery eyed to "Video Hits" in Australia this morning, I saw the new Jet video clip "Rip it up," where I saw a series of my photos morphed with illustrator and put into the music video" writes AnnPenelope, the LiveJournal user at the centre of the claims.

"I didn't give anyone consent to use that out of my LiveJournal. I have the lowest self image ever already. Fuck! And hah, I recognized myself in a flash this morning on TV! So it's not like its supposed to be someone else."

A comparison made by AnnPenelope between the original photo and the image used in the Jet video clip is shown below.

A screenshot from the Jet video:

Photographs in Jet Video?

There are some striking similarities between the girl pictured in the photograph and the video, in particular the bow and pattern on the bra. The hair, stance and body structure also seems very much alike.

Comment is currently being sought from Jet.

They copy their music from other artists like Paul McCartney, so why not copy the pictures in their videos too?

I find it amusing that many of the suits in the industry are out to get artists who remix music without permission, such as DJ Danger Mouse's use of Jay-Z's Black Album and the Beatles' White Album. Yet remixing a photograph they didn't have permission for is all groovy.

Why the hell would she have posted so many pictures of herself and some in a bikini when she has such low self esteem of herself? I hate those people who are like "ZOMG I'm sooo ugleh, see *insert picture* I'm ugly" Then everyone gets fooled and compliments them. This girl should be happy that she is getting recognized and her photo was good enough to be put in a music video. She is only in there for one second so what's her deal?

Don't bands hire people to make the videos?

It's still copy right infringement....

"I have the lowest self image ever already"
Dont put f***ing pictures of yourself posing all over your journal then. I'm guessing, seeing as Jet supposedly nicked the pictures, her lj wasnt friendlocked. So basically she's just posted a load of pictures of herself on the internet for anyone to see. Now I'm no expert on these things but for someone with low self esteem, shes not exactly trying too hard to stop people seeing these pics.

The thing is, the picture is a drawing. if I painted a picture of you I can do what ever I want with it because it is my picture. Artists do this all the time. comedians dress up like other people and that is ok as well. It is not her picture it is a drawing of it so the picture belongs to the person who drew it. there are many videos that mock political leaders and have funny pictures of the and that is perfectly legal. The same rule applies heir. she is right it is a picture of her but, it is not her picture it is the picture of the person who took a pencil and made it.
