Music Software Popularity Index - 2007 Q2
Digital Music Doctor announces the results of the Music Software Internet Popularity Index for Second Quarter 2007. As in all previous releases of this analysis, Digidesign Pro Tools holds a commanding lead and Steinberg Cubase is second. However, significant increases in the quarterly rankings for Image Line FL Studio and Cakewalk Sonar caused these products to move up to the third and fifth positions respectively in annual average. FL Studio now ranks ahead of Adobe Audition and Sonar ahead of Apple GarageBand. Cakewalk Project 5 had the largest quarterly increase moving ahead of Ableton Live to ninth position replacing PG Music Band-in-a-Box in the top ten based on the annual averages.
The ten most popular music software products on the Internet, based on recent search engine activity are:

This index is based on a four-quarter average of Internet search activity on Google, Yahoo, AOL and MSN. Collectively these 4 search engines represent more than 94 percent of the searches on the Internet. Over 120 search terms are used to construct this index, and 15 music software products are tracked quarterly.
Looking at the index over the past year, Pro Tools and Cubase have consistently been the front runners. However, there has been a fair amount of volatility in the other positions. The changes this quarter are primarily due to significant shifts in the Google data.
