Dean to make 100 Rik Emmett guitars

Celebrating its rich history of rock guitars, Dean Guitars is releasing a limited edition Rik Emmett model, a white Dean V - one of Dean's most iconic pieces in its 30 year history.

Rik Emmett Dean Guitar

“Rik Emmett was the front man and guitarist of the popular ‘80s Canadian based, 3 piece rock band, Triumph. Most of the band's hit songs were recorded and performed on Emmett's famous custom white, single pickup, Dean V. Rik is respected worldwide for his virtuoso playing, being one of the few rockers that is classically trained,” said Dean Guitars founder, Dean B. Zelinsky.

The 2007 USA model is an exact replica of Emmett's early ‘80s custom Dean V. It features gold hardware, a single Dimarzio humbucker, and its trade mark volume only control setup. The 24 fret fingerboard, multi-ply binding, and a special input jack position also set this model apart from other Deans from this era.

“Emmett's popularity has an underground swell that is sure to make this guitar a very special release for Rik's fans and Dean Guitars,” said Zelinsky.

Emmett, who is now getting back together with the members of Triumph for some special events planned in 2007, felt the timing was right for this model release.

The Rik Emmett Signature V is a limited run of only 100 guitars worldwide and is expected to sell out fast. Each guitar will be hand signed by Emmett and comes with a certificate of authenticity and an autographed photo of him, circa 1983, playing this famous guitar. The list price is $4,999 and includes a hardshell case.

Emmett will appear at the Dean Booth during NAMM on Saturday afternoon. Stop by booth 5466 for more details.

Emmett signed with Dean in 1980 and played various Dean models, but it was Emmett's Dean V that became a synonymous symbol of Triumph, appearing on the cover of the band's biggest album, Allied Forces.

During Triumphs reign, Emmett was topping guitar magazine reader polls and became highly regarded as a monster player of all styles, not just the rock – a level of respect he still commands today.

In March of 2007, Emmett and Triumph will be inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame.
