Zaxcom launches new Deva accessories
Zaxcom has announced that it is introducing two new accessories that expand the functionality of its popular Deva product line, a system designed to provide fault-tolerant multi-track audio recording for professionals in the motion picture and television industries. The new Deva Mix-8 and Deva Flash Drive are on display now at the 2008 NAB Show, April 14 — 17 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Zaxcom's Deva Mix-8 is a small eight-fader mixing panel that integrates directly with the company's Deva IV, V, 5.8, 16, and Fusion systems. The Deva Mix-8 unleashes the internal mix functions of the host audio recorder, eliminating the expense and bulk of traditional external mixing consoles. The unit features long 100-mm faders, input trim pots, and input level meters and is powered directly from the main Deva unit via a single cable.

Also on display at the 2008 NAB Show is the new Deva Flash Drive, which plugs into a Deva IV, V, 5.8, or 16 system. This 32-GB solid-state drive replaces the internal hard disk inside the Deva, converting it to a solid-state recording device with no moving parts. This conversion ensures greater recording reliability with an extended temperature range, less vulnerability to movement of the unit while recording, and a longer battery life with lower power consumption. By using Zaxcom's proprietary and efficient .ZAX file compression format, the drive will hold the equivalent of 64 GB of recorded audio. Users can switch instantly between the Deva Flash Drive and the hard-disk caddy currently installed in all Deva systems.
Zaxcom's Deva family provides multi-disk, multi-track, multi-format recording on location, with automatic backup to DVD-RAM or CompactFlash. With the ability to background-record multiple disks throughout a day, Deva users are able to save precious time in feature film and television productions by recording the disk copies required for post-production at the same time as the original recordings are created. Production staff can reference previous recordings immediately while still on-set, reducing potential conflicts with post while also safeguarding against lost, damaged, or stolen material with automatically generated backup copies.
