EdgeSounds releases a 24-bit general MIDI soundfont bank.
EdgeSounds has released the Genevoice GM64Pro24, a 64 MB 24-bit quality General Midi (GM) SoundFont bank. Nowadays just the “CD quality” is not enough anymore. Contemporary equipment is capable of reproducing much better quality. So, why midi-files still must suffer? Well created midi-files deserve the appropriate sound quality. That is why we have created the Genevoice GM64Pro24, the first 24-bit sound quality General Midi (GM) SoundFont bank.

In a process of creating this exclusive bank we have recorded 6436 raw stereo samples with total volume of more than 1.5 GB. 950 samples were carefully chosen, edited, looped, balanced and added to the collection. The EdgeSounds Genevoice GM64Pro24 contains 2 banks of 128 GM compatible melodic instruments each (256 total) and 11 XG compatible drum sets. 24-bit quality allows approximately 6db dynamic range increase compared to 16-bit, which delivers large amount of extra details in a sound of instruments. Users of the new 24-bit capable hardware can enjoy the higher fidelity sound when playing standard midi-files. But other 16-bit hardware and software synthesizers will render the Genevoice GM64Pro24 bank in 16-bit quality, still delivering the brilliant quality of its samples. This flexibility makes the bank attractive not only for computer game users but also for music professionals in a search for new distinct soundings.

I HAve WIN XP PRO and I have the same problem...Blue screen memory dumps till I'm sick. I think Tascam should answer for this...I've seen quite a few complaints about the same thing and no fixes...It's driving me up the wall.

If these are as good as they seem in print, and somewhat affordable, these 24 bit Sf2's are something I would buy (and use!) since I use Multi Track Studio Pro Plus by Bremmer Audio as my main MIDI and sound recorder, and it's built-in sampler converts Sf2's in a brief one-time process to its own native format. 24 and 16-bit are available since my TASCAM US-122(A) does both those bit depths in 48khz and 44 khz rates.
The TASCAM's driver situation has been troubling WIN XP Home, Service Pack 2 something fierce, though, and gives me nasty blue screen crashes quite often. If someone has an idea how to update these US-122 without utterly replacing them (other than throw them from a tall distance into a dumpster, for the moment) I would surely love to hear about it. pdg88h@alltel.net
