MusicXML 2.0 support to Dolet 4 for Finale plug-in now available

Recordare has released version 4 of its Dolet plug-in for the Finale music notation program. The Dolet 4 for Finale plug-in reads and writes MusicXML 2.0 files for the highest-fidelity translation available between music notation programs. It includes batch translation features to automate the process of moving digital sheet music files from one program to another. The Dolet 4 plug-in supports Finale 2000 to 2008 on Windows and Finale 2004 to 2008 on Mac OS X.

Recordare's Dolet plug-ins serve as "universal translators" between music notation programs. While Finale 2008 can read MusicXML 2.0 files, Dolet 4 for Finale is the first program that can write MusicXML files that include the new 2.0 features for file compression, multimedia support, and improved music formatting.

One company already taking advantage of Dolet 4 for Finale’s new features is mediaRAIN, creators of the musicRAIN 2.0 sheet music player. "With the improved layout algorithms of the latest version of Dolet for Finale, musicRAIN is able to replicate a near-perfect print of the original file," said Andrew Howlett, President of mediaRAIN, LLC. "Because of the flexibility of MusicXML 2.0, musicRAIN can also play the displayed notes, transpose the piece, and offer a new level of user interaction in browsing sheet music. MusicXML 2.0 and Dolet 4 for Finale have been a driving force in providing quality sheet music to music lovers around the world."

Upgrades from Dolet 3 for Finale are available for US $99.95.

The MusicXML format works with over 75 different music applications, including:

- Notation programs such as Finale, Sibelius, and capella
- Scanning programs such as SharpEye Music Reader and capella-scan
- PDF and MIDI music acquisition programs such as PDFtoMusic Pro and Notation Composer
- Electronic music stands for organ and piano such as OrganMuse and MuseBook Score

This combined support makes MusicXML far and away the most widely adopted music notation format since MIDI.
