MoltoMobile: A tuner and metronome for your mobile phone
Modern mobile phones are surprisingly powerful little computers, as evidenced by the selection of sophisticated game titles available for them. The Canadian developer Peardon Consulting has recently released MoltoMobile - a much more practical use of this power for musicians.
MoltoMobile is a fully-functional metronome and a unique graphical tuner for many newer mobile phones. In fact, the phone lets MoltoMobile improve on the traditional tuner/metronome with silent metronome modes that use the phone’s backlight or vibrate functions, visual display of the selected tuning note on the staff, and transposition from native to concert pitch for most popular instruments.

MoltoMobile is purchased from the developers’ web site www.moltomobile.com and then downloaded directly into the phone. Response from early adopters has been enthusiastic. Wouter Kluck, a professional trumpeter, conductor and arranger from The Netherlands says: “As a musician I was looking for a good metronome and tuner for my Nokia E61 when I found MoltoMobile. The Tuner is handy, and the Metronome has all the features I was looking for!”
For many owners, their mobile phone is also their camera, web browser, game console, and messaging tool. Perhaps musicians will soon add tuner/metronome to that list!
