Kinect Midi Drumkit

I received this email from Alistair de B Clarkson updating me on his latest efforts using Kinect...

Just over Christmas I had got a slightly more advanced Kinect to Midi system than Shinect working, creating dubstep sounds and posted up on youtube.

Kinect Midi Drumkit Mk II:

In the above video what you're seeing is NWIF OpenSDK used to get Kinect controller connected to a Roland DR-670 drum machine. Due to running it on a comparatively slow laptop there is an amount of non uniform latency that can make it difficult to sustain an accurate rhythm when drumming quickly. It looks like this shouldn't be a problem for mid end desktop machines with low end gaming graphics cards, and a few performance tweaks inside the server.

Kinect doing Dubstep using Midi Control:

Above you see an XBox Kinect hooked up to PC doing dubstep music controlling midi software synth with the right hand and hardware synth + fx processor with the right hand. This has to be the coolest thing I have ever touched, that includes the last motorbike I came off. To play it you have to dance; otherwise you lose sync with the oscillators and beats, I can't believe how #'@@***ing Sik this is to play with!!!!!!!!
