Pro Tools Goes Native

Pro Tools HD Native

Avid has introduced Pro Tools|HD Native, a new version of Pro Tools that runs entirely on your computer - this means you can now have Pro Tools without having to buy their specialized dedicated processing hardware you find in larger Pro Tools|HD DSP-assisted systems.

Some might say this has been a long time coming, after all they did have Pro Tools FREE out 10 years ago as a way to introduce PC and Mac desktop musicians to the Pro Tools brand, but Digidesign never seemed to get around to catching up to the other desktop DAWs out there.

Now the new owners of Pro Tools have made amends. But to be fair, Pro Tools has always been as much of a hardward system as a software one, so Avid probably have only had enough CPU power to play with in recent times.

The Pro Tools|HD Native system provides an integrated hardware and software solution featuring a new Pro Tools|HD Native PCIe card and running Pro Tools HD software.

It uses Pro Tools HD Series interfaces for up to 64 channels of premium audio conversion and I/O. Support for SYNC HD enables accurate synchronization to picture for post-production workflows. For integrated monitoring and tactile control, the system integrates with Avid ICON and C|24 work surfaces, and features lossless session and project interchange with other Pro Tools and Avid video editing systems for simplified collaboration.

Pro Tools HD Native

This Avid solution is not comparable to Sonar, Cubase, FL Studio, etc.

This is a way to get away from a 19" rack mounted system by using the PCIe bus and mounting the DSP hardware processor directly in the computer. Pre-orders look like they are going for close to $3.500.

You are correct - Native

You are correct - Native core: $3495 buys you the necessary PCIe native card plus Pro Tools HD 8.5 software. The card comes with two Digilink mini ports on it.
