This app is expected to be in direct competition with the existing music production apps that have been ported into iOS. Its main selling point lies in the intuitive workflow and design of the digital audio workstation that it was based on - Cubase.

Cubasis will make Cubase users instantly feel at home, using the same interface style and workflow, from the arrangement window with its track list and inspector up to the mixer. It brings the same intuitive operation of Cubase with focus on utilizing the processing power and multi-touch interface of the iPad. Steinberg designed Cubasis to take full advantage of the iPad’s versatility, featuring standardized multitouch gestures that speed up workflow.

Like the other music production apps available, Cubasis lets you record audio and MIDI tracks that are limited only by your available memory. You can use the built-in microphone or utilize Core Audio compliant USB audio interfaces to capture anything from vocals to various instruments. Cubasis also comes with a built-in audio editor called the Sample Editor, allowing for cut and pasting, trimming and other editing functions.

Cubasis also comes with a built-in mixer, allowing you to combine your recorded tracks and to conveniently finalize your music. The app also includes over ten audio effects for polishing and enhancing your music. Essential effects that you get include an equalizer, a compressor, a reverb, a delay and many more.

Other Notable Features:
  • Over 70 virtual instrument sounds based on HALion Sonic
  • Over 300 MIDI and audio loops
  • Virtual keyboard and virtual drum pads
  • Export to Cubase, Dropbox, SoundCloud, AudioCopy & email
  • Core Audio and Core MIDI compatible hardware supported
  • Sequence other Core MIDI apps (MIDI recording only) and run Cubasis simultaneously via background audio
  • Import audio from your iTunes music library or using iTunes filesharing, use AudioPaste or set up a Wi-Fi server in Cubasis

Aside from looking similar to Cubase, all the projects you create with Cubasis is compatible with Cubase. You can load them up on Cubase on both Windows and Mac OS X to take your music to the next level. This essentially makes the Cubasis app, a true and working Cubase port for the iPad.

Cubasis is currently available via the iTunes Appstore with a price of $49.99.
