Korg Kross Mobile Synthesizer - Musikmesse 2013

At Musikmesse 2013, Korg unveils a full featured portable digital synthesizer keyboard that can run on batteries, the Kross.

This new mobile synthesizer is labeled by Korg as a music workstation, it comes with features that goes beyond what conventional synths and keyboards offer - and it does all this while remaining compact and portable. It comes with various sounds, synth functions and recording, while having the option to be powered by six AA batteries.

Kross comes in two sizes to accommodate your preference, a smaller 61-key and a bigger 88-key version, both having velocity sensitive keys. As expected from Korg, this portable synth comes with a large variety of sounds that range from traditional pianos to percussion sounds. It utilizes twice as much PCM memory when compared to older models, designed to meet the quality and versatility requirements of working musicians.

The Kross is a capable synth with 4 filters, 2 oscillators, 2 LFOs, 2 key tracking generators, 2 AMS mixers and 2 envelope generators. This allows for even more sonic variety, of which 64 sounds can directly be saved as favorites.

Aside from the various samples and sounds, Korg Kross features the EDS-i sound engine, which comes with seven effects that you can all trigger simultaneously. Other nifty features include a step sequencer inherited from the Electribe, a 16-track MIDI sequencer, a drum track and an arpeggiator.

Being a portable music workstation, it comes with a stereo audio recorder for recording and overdubbing your performances. A mic input is also provided for utilizing or capturing vocals during your performance. Other inputs and outputs include mini-jack inputs for mics and other audio sources, MIDI in/out, 1/8" headphone out, 1/4" L and R outputs, Pedal switch inputs and an SD Card slot. Finally, it easily connects to your favorite DAW via its USB connection, and it comes with plug-in integration for most DAWs.
