Here at Hitsquad, we have been following the news surrounding the DL1608, Mackie's new iPad controlled digital mixer. Mackie seemed set at letting us know of this new product, unveiling it months in advance and even releasing a preview of its control app before the hardware was available. Mackie also set up a series of video podcasts that showcase the capabilities of the mixer. Finally, the anticipation reaches its climax as the mixers are now shipping.

The Mackie press release stated that they had to increased production capabilities to meet unprecedented demand. Shipments have started leaving their North American manufacturing facility to be welcomed by customers and retailers worldwide.

Ben Olswang, Mackie Product Manager, was quoted saying: "We are extremely excited to get the DL1608 into your hands. We’ve been addressing customer interest with a series of video podcasts that go over all the cool features. Plus, the Master Fader control app has been fully updated with great new features that weren’t available in the preview version."

Here is a quick review on what the Mackie DL1608 is all about - it is a digital mixer that uses the iPad as its main controller. It has 16 Onyx mic preamps and 25-bit Cirrus Logic AD/DA converters. It features wireless iPad control with up to 10 iPad devices connecting, this will allow sound engineers, musicians and producers to mix from anywhere in the venue as long as the Wi-Fi signal reaches them. You also get nifty EQ, dynamics and other effects plug-ins built-into the Mackie DL1608.

The Mackie Master Fader Control App is updated to version 1.1 and now features complete integration with the hardware. Updates include factory and user Presets, complete offline operation, snapshots and shows for mix recall, and it now comes with a quick start guide as well as a reference guide.

Note that although it is already shipping, it may still take a while before you can actually test the DL1608 at your local dealer. The Mackie DL1608 iPad Mixer is currently being sold by online retailers for a price of $999.99, and I've seen an expected shipping date of October 5, 2012.
