Software Description:

Total Recorder records streaming audio, mic input, DVD, and CD. The resulting sound file can be stored on your hard drive in WAV format (plain or compressed) or MP3 format and, if needed, is ready to be put on CD-R.

The main features of Total Recorder include

<li>Record sound being played by other computer programs (e.g. RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, Quick Time, WinAmp) including live Internet broadcasts. This feature is unique to Total Recorder and is not available in the vast majority of other sound recording programs
<li>Convert different sound formats to WAV format (plain or compressed) or MP3 format, providing you have a player capable of playing a particular format<li>Record Internet Telephony conversations - even full duplex<li>Record from any sound card input line. For example, you can record from CD or you can hook up a cassette player and record from it<li>A built-in scheduler lets you schedule future recordings and playbacks. Or you can use Total Recorder’s command line options with an external scheduler such as Microsoft Task Scheduler</ul>The potential uses of Total Recorder are endless. Here are some examples of how you can use Total Recorder:<ul><li>Convert your old sound files (e.g. AU files) to WAV format and then compress them to a modern format, such as MP3 or RA. Or you can record them to your CD-R<li>Record sound from your favorite game program<li>Schedule the recording of a live Internet show and replay it later at a convenient time, similar to programming your VCR<li>Make an audio book using a text-to-speech program</ul>Total Recorder uses a virtual sound driver to capture the sound output from another program. By installing this driver, and setting this device as the default, different sound reproducing programs send their output stream to Total Recorder's driver and not to the driver of a real device. Total Recorder then passes the information to the sound card driver.

In addition to standard maintenance and other minor enhancements, 

 What's new in this version

<li> A new Recording Wizard allows users to easily specify their recording settings. The Wizard can walk users through the setups for a variety of different recording scenarios.
<li> The Total Recorder sound driver has been enhanced and will now allow you to record several scheduled recordings at the same time.
<li> Support for skins that allow the user to customize the look and feel of the user interface. There are several skins supplied with the program and there is also a free-of-charge Total Recorder Skin Design Tool that allows the user to develop their own skins.
<li> "Monitoring mode" allows you to monitor sound signals passed through Total Recorder when it is not recording. You can preview the sound levels before you begin an actual recording.
<li> A new display facility allows users to see a consolidated display of the activities of all audio applications running on the PC.
<li> Ogg Vorbis is now supported through a free-of-charge Ogg Vorbis Add-On. This add-on is based on the latest Ogg Vorbis engine.
