RIAA is not trying to suppress the entire world's legacy of digitized art. They are trying to protect copyrighted material. There are thousands of artists who have willingly released their material on the net to be distributed to any and all takers. Then there are artists who have chosen not to, and their decision must be respected as well.

I am a musician and a songwriter, and I would like to make a living with my music. How is that going to be possible if I am not allowed to make money from my recordings?

The bottom line is that when you take someone's music and distribute it without their permission, you are stealing. You can dress up your arguments with excuses and moral outrage at record companies, but it is still stealing.
