Press release MySpace.com, a leading web portal built to mobilize people around what they love, launched a new music service, MySpace Music. ...Continued Thousands Of bands, two million Users Kick Off MySpace music site MySpace Music is revolutionary both in reach and design. The site's built-in web audience of 2 million users is already larger than any music-based site catering to unsigned and emerging talent, and that audience is networked together, creating a completely unique online environment for music fans and musicians. These network attributes will magnify the benefits of having all the features and functionality that is currently fragmented between other types of music sites in this single central location. "MySpace Music is what MP3.com should have been, but never was," said MySpace co-founder & musician Tom Anderson. "Very few people go to a website looking for bands they've never heard of. MySpace Music lets people find music online in the same way they find out about music in person-through their friends. And millions of friends come to MySpace to socialize, and through that process--word of mouth and recommendations of friends-bands get exposure to new fans and fans to new music." The first of its kind, the new service changes the way the Web can be used to appreciate music. The site offers music lovers and musicians an easy, intuitive way to navigate and fully experience the multi-faceted, fast-paced world of music, offering capabilities such as: * Downloads -- The free service lets bands and musicians put up to four MP3s on their own custom web page and share it with existing MySpace members through the MySpace Music Player. * Direct Connect with Bands -- Thousands of bands have already created profiles, from which they can make use of every site attribute: sharing music, lyrics and pictures, updating fans on recent news and tour info, and selling CD's and band merchandise. MySpace users can also add band profiles to their friends list. * User Testimonials and Ratings -- gives the review element associated with music media sites, but in this case you may know and trust the reviewer. * Network and Mobilization Capabilities -- Through the MySpace network bands can tap into a wide variety of music business contacts to meet club owners, find promoters and book tours. Additionally, it allows a band to reach a brand new fan base to fill up venues while on tour. "The most exciting use of MySpace Music is the way its changing the band-to-fan dynamic," said Chris DeWolfe, MySpace.com co-founder. "A band can go on MySpace and find potential fans all over the country just by sending an e-mail and saying 'Hello'. Bands are developing followings and finding street teams online." Various MySpace.com users have successfully used the site's attributes and leveraged their interests and creative endeavors using the network, including musicians, filmmakers, writers, artists and fans. "MySpace has played a huge role in TWYTCH's success," said manager of the MySpace band TWYTCH, Cynthia C. Donovan of Artist Management. "The site has literally given us an audience we couldn't have possibly reached otherwise, including thousands of fans, A&R executives, promoters, booking agents and other great bands. We're even working on signing a deal with a label as a result of MySpace. We never could have received so much great exposure world wide without MySpace and all the great people who are as addicted to it as we are!"
