I play sax so I can't think of a reason to go electronic... but it's like you say nobody has "aced" the sound in electronics. I thought if I could combine a couple of effects like the portamento with a little distorted "chorus" type effect and put it on some kind of pedal driven "expression" controller, I could get the effect of a sax, but like I said, I play sax, man.
