: Reason can certainly boast numerous glowing qualities; high quality sound, expansive library, Propellerheads' support, etc.
: Still, I'm running it through my 450 K6 with 160 megs RAM, and damn if it doesn't bog down the CPU. With only a few units in the rack, all is fine, but it quickly turns into an audio nightmare after adding that one extra synth (as we know, that one extra synth can make all the difference). I can't imagine what it would run like with minimum requirements, or that it would even run at all. It is important for a prog to not only be expansive and interesting, but practical in its requirements to run as well.
: Bottom line, a fine piece of prog, but the intense CPU requirements leaves those of us without the latest supercomputer to wallow in scratchy, crunchy audio hell.
well, i think it might be the CPU. you need one with plenty of floating point grunt...and a k6-2 probably wont cut the mustard. what you can do, however, is lower your sampling rate to 22050hz or 11000 hz which is fine for working on the track, then when you want to extract it to a wav, it will be in its 16bit 44.1khz glory, and sounding great. My laptop is a celeron 400A, and reason runs without a glitch if the sampling rate is 22050hz. it stutters somewhat at 44100 though, but as I said before, you dont need power to write it to a WAV file, and it sounds VERY nice :).
@ home i use a p3-900 with 256 meg, and im yet to reach 1/5 of the cpu load bar ;)
also, if you have a sound blaster live, then I'd recommend using the "EMU APS Live! drivers" which includes ASIO support for SBlive cards. these drivers can be found at http://come.to/sblive
I practically knew reason inside out after only one week, so If anyone has any q's at all, please dont hesitate to write/message me :)
Adios, and happy music making
Matt,
PS, If anyone wants to trade tracks, wants me to listen to tracks, trade samples etc, msg me in ICQ, on UIN#16943974
