: I am the king of know nothings but here goes! I have a power pc 8100\80 (older and slower) that I want to use for music production-got it for free so no investment is spendy. What are the system requirements for this piece? I mean, specifically. I want to upgrade this machine (it's my understanding that I can do so) to a G3. What specific components do I need? Can someone please let me know without the obligatory "you might as well get a G4" rhetoric? I am not trying to be rude but if you or anyone that you know has ever tried to update an old mac you realize the frustration that mounts upon hearing misguided salespeople rag on my machine. My machine has 16MB of RAM and a cache (it's limit) of 256. I have just purchased a Nubus sound card with a media vision spectrum (basically enhances sound, has midi capability-allows the import of external sound and translates this digitally for your computer. It also has a 1 gig hard drive. What can I do? What do I need? Can I go beyond a G3? What about a sequencer? Please help this former MPC 2000 user make sense of this!!!Please, please, please, please. I am in need of some serious assistance. Hell, I want to get back to production so badly that I would almost pay consultation fees. If anyone can guide a digital dimwit thru the do's and do not's of the maze please do so. Like specifically what I need to buy besides Phrazer to make loop based acid jazz, hip hop, trip hop, etc. Any sequencing info would be hot too!
