By Geoff Nicholson It gets two big thumbs up! ...Continued We review 'How to successfully promote your music on the Internet' For every band that sells a respectable number of CDs there are hundreds of websites that barely get visited. It isn't enough to whack a couple of pictures of your band and an MP3 or two on a GeoCities homepage and hope you get discovered by a savvy A&R cyberdude. The dream will only give way to disappointment. Instead you need an online strategy, an understanding of media and a desire to make it all happen. And that's where David Nevue's book 'How to successfully promote your music on the Internet' comes in. This spiral-bound tome will set you straight and provide you with a lot of the basic techniques needed to set up band website, promote it and sell CDs. Sure, you have to add the sweat and the toil, but you really won't pick up the information and advice contained in this book in an afternoon's surfing on a few websites. Even someone like myself, who is a professional in the area of online publishing, finds 'How to successfully promote your music on the Internet' a worthy read. There are years of experience and lessons contained within the thirteen chapters of the book. Take notice of them. Nevue warns against wasteful tactics such as spamming and banner exchanges and shows you how to transform your page views into a handy source of revenue. Most importantly, he shows you how to entice your site's visitors into listening to your music and then paying for it. Admittedly, there isn't anything in 'How to successfully promote your music on the Internet' which can't be found elsewhere online. But it would take you months, maybe years, to dig it all up and put it into practice. If you've just come online, Nevue may overwhelm you a tad with the volume of his advice. After all, this isn't a book about funky web design or coding in HTML. It's a book about sales, publishing and promotion. Chill out if this all seems a bit heavy. Nevue makes a lot of sense. The book is a great starting point for those of you who have gone online to attract listeners, sell CDs and found very few people who are interested enough to pay for your music. There's a very good chance you'll read this book, realise that you've got a few things to learn and be the wiser for it. Conclusion: Click here for more information on the book
