You have to understand that MP3 conversion is destructive compression, but if you encode at high bitrates very few people are going to be able to tell the difference between a WAV and an MP3 file. No, you do not pay for a toll call to Russia. Once you are logged onto the Internet, you can click through to any site you want. You only pay for the call that allowed you to connect to your Internet Service Provider.

You know when songs on a CD jump up and down in volume? That's when you might need to think about normalization. Normalization is the process where you can scan the audio files, determine the average level and then increase or reduce the levels of all the files so they all sound at the same volume. You would normalize before you burn to disc. Try AudioCatalyst, Audiograbber or Cool Edit 2000.
