Here comes MusicNet RealNetworks have formed a joint venture with AOL Time Warner, Bertelsmann and EMI Group to an online music subscription service. MusicNet will offer subscribers a wide collection of downloadable and streaming music. Issues such as pricing, copyright protection and the depth of content are yet to be publicly discussed. MusicNet is expected to partner with other record labels and subscription-based distributors, including Napster when and if it gets transformed into a secure subscriber service. Opposition may come from Duet, the Sony/Universal venture, which aims to have its service online by the northern summer. Links:
