By Geoff Nicholson With all the Napster news being released at the moment, we take you through a few of the more notable announcements and dramas. ...Continued Napster causes artists to change tune Napster apologizes to music-lovers. Yes, that's right. Napster recently said that in implementing filters to block access to songs that are copyright protected, it removed tracks that can legally be shared. Oops. The company plans to fix the problem up to allow legal file-sharing in the future. Napster and the RIAA play semantics and shadowbox. The judge of the now legendary Napster V RIAA case invited the Recording Industry Association of America to seek clarification in the court of appeals. Currently, the RIAA has to "provide notice to Napster of copyrighted works and files containing such works available on the Napster system before Napster has the duty to disable access to the offending content." Napster believe they have to screen out songs only after the RIAA identifies the specific infringing files, along with proof of copyright. The RIAA wants to simply provide a list of artists and song titles. The battle continues and you can bet the RIAA will seek further clarification on what they and Napster are legally bound to do. Where's the music? Napster claims to be blocking 1.75 million possible combinations of artist-and-title names and variants, 85 percent of the songs users try to trade. Napster causes artists to change tune. Journey's latest album, "Arrival," was released in Japan and nowhere else. Fans who downloaded material from the album it was too ballad- heavy. So the band went back into the studio and recorded more beefier tracks such as "Nothin' Comes Close," "World Gone Wild" and "To Be Alive Again." Download Napster here.
