Actually, if you'd do a bit of research, you'd realize that many artists actually LOSE money recording albums. The average musician OWES his record label money, and the only way a band really makes any money is from live performances. I work in the industry, and the practice of labels charging steep fees to artists trying to records an album is widespread. Look online for Steve Albini's article on this practice.

Remember the average band member that sells 1 million copies (platinum) of their album makes just over $4,000. That's all.

The only people who get hurt by mp3s is the industry itself, and given its unethical practices, maybe they should.
