I think that with the number of bands online and the competition to get heard, bands will have to give away songs in order to get an audience. There's just so much choice and people will want to hear the music before they purchase it (like radio). However, it's so easy to distribute copies of music across the net that some musicians may be better off forgetting about trying to have any form of security on their music and just let it out into the public domain. Its interesting to note that some well-known bands are getting great amounts of media coverage by combatting piracy. I tend to believe this is ultimately a publicity stunt as anything that can be heard can be feasibly copied and then distributed. The amount of bootleg Beatles recordings on the net that are clearly recorded from stereo speakers or at radio broadcasts indicates this point.

: i see no big deal about putting at least SOME of your music online or whatever. i enjoy making music and writing poetry, which i gladly read in public and give to people.i make electronic stuff on my computer, so i will be doing it sometime soon, i would think. at least i have some clues as to where to put it, so it might get noticed. i'm not as concerned about selling power, but just so people hear it. i think some people might like it. it would make me feel good to see people download my songs......
