: I have just read your article and being a member of an independent Australian rock band it concerns me.Now, we dont have the money to put into merchandising and participating in the "tribal" thing as you put it,and we spent countless hours writing, rehearsing, practicing our own instrumental skills and performing live for a fairly measly paypacket.Physically selling CD's is something that we aim to achieve.
: I dont have a problem with using it as a promotional tool but your open acceptance of piracy and the copyright situation concerns me.I will now get off my soapbox and back to my guitar .Thanks......

Hello Matt,

Nothing in this model prevents the sale of CDs, now or at any point in the future.
This model simply deals with what to do once a significant percentage of song sales
are made without a physical container, the degree to which CDs retain their importance
with consumers is not influenced at all by this model.

As far as copyright goes, this model makes it easier to detect piracy than any current
methods as you will know if a copy of a song is a commerical one, or if it's a copy of
a commercial one, or if it's a free copy - and in the case it is an illegal copy you
will be able to identify the point of origin.

Rather than an "open acceptance of piracy" as you put it (which I must say is nowhere in
the model), this model actually relegates the pirates to dealing in nothing more than
promotional copies of a song just like a radio station or jukebox does now, and completely
prevents prirates from being able to sell undetectable illegal copies.

Copyright is still a vital part of the equation - and this model makes it easier to police
than ever before.

I hope I've satisfied some of your conerns,
Jason.
