8Slots has eight slots for loading small sample files, like the sounds of a drum kit. It lets you chose a MIDI port and channel and you can give each slot a different note value and adjust its stereo pan position. When MIDI signals come in at the provided channel and port, 8Slots will play back the according sample. Much like a software sampler instrument. It was writen to use with MeV, as it is pretty much a sequencer only right now. Read the included readme on how to connect MeV and 8Slots. You will find it astonishing easy to connect apps via virtual MIDI ports under BeOS compared to some other OS.
