First make sure snaping is enabled, (options/snaping), Then set your grid spacing to say 16th notes (Options/grid spacing). Then set your loop range to 1 bar with the yellow flags just above the arragement window.You can zoom the arrangement window by moving your mouse pointer to the edge of the slider bar at the bottom of the arange window. You want the pointer to change from the arrow to <-> the click and slide the window to a size you like. Now we are ready.

Lets start with the bass drum, find a bass drum sample you like, a single hit sample that is, a sample of a bass drum and nothing else. Drag it to the arrange window and paint it in at the very start of the track. (1.1). Then put your mouse pointer over the wave form, hold down Ctrl then click on the the waveform and slide to the right to (1.2). Make sure the mouse pointer is in the middle of the sample or you will just extend the length of the sample instead of draging a copy of it. Just mess about with the Ctrl and point and you will get the hang of it, UNDO if you mess up.

Repeat this process for grid positions 1.3 and 1.4 , now click on the loop button on the right of the record button, and press play. You should now have a 4 on the floor bass drum loop playing.

For track 2 select a snare and paint in at grid positions 1.2 and 1.4, using the above process.

For track 3 get a High hat sample and experiment.

The only problem I have not solved yet is regarding velocities, it seems the only way to assign Higher or Lower volumes is to use the volume Envelope tool. What is needed is a option to right click on a individual sample and just lower that single velocity, Never mind Sony still has work to do!.

If this does not get you started go then goto the toilet, see the big white thing with mystery curly hairs round the rim?. Insert you head as far down as you can, then there maybe a handle, if so turn this handle fully anti clockwise if on left, other wise turn it clockwise, if you see a chain, then pull it, or you may have a button marked flush, push this.
