It depends greatly on the quality of the original WAVe in the first place. CD quality WAVes use 44Khz, 16bit Stereo and suck up around 10 megabytes of disk space per minute of playback. By converting to MP3 or WMA of say 196 to 128 kbps, you decrease file size by around 8 to 11 times. WMA can offer slightly smaller files, and maintain quality too....according to Microsoft, if you believe them! If you have lower quality WAVes, compressing with MP3, WMA, (Real Audio's not listed here) saves you less space of course.
