Software Description

AudioMulch is an interactive musician's environment. Bringing together the popular and the experimental, AudioMulch merges the worlds of mainstream electronica and electroacoustic sound composition to create a fluid sonic environment.

While many of the processes featured within AudioMulch are not new to computer music programs, it is the software's ability to carry out these traditionally "studio" or "non-real-time" signal processing techniques in real-time that emerges as its major asset. With AudioMulch, music that has for so long been limited to the pre & post-production practices of a studio can emerge in a new LIVE and interactive context.

Through the essentially unlimited (only by the power of the computer) combination of a network of synthesis and processing contraptions, AudioMulch allows the user to extend their current audio processing capabilities or create new music within their computer without additional expensive software or hardware systems.

AudioMulch 'Contraptions' (signal processing elements) include:

  • Signal Generators: Test tone / noise, drum machine, bassline synthesizer, additive synthesizer, stored sample granulator, loop player, streaming sound file players and recorders (up to 24 channels), Shepard / Risset tone generator, arpeggiator.
  • Effects: Reverb, flanger, phaser, delay line granulator, ring / amplitude modulation, stereo delays, dynamic stereo spatialiser, waveshaper / distortion, digital grunge inducer, pulsar comb filter, frequency shifter, 16 channel live sampling looper, live sampling "canon" looper.
  • Filters: Parametric EQ, resonant comb filter bank, Shepard / Risset filter bank, granular filtering, resonant lowpass with pattern triggering and envelope following control.
  • Mixers: Mono and stereo mixers and gain elements, crossfader, matrix with variable fade times.

AudioMulch supports VST audio effects plugins, allowing hundreds of free plugins and many commercial plugins to be used within the AudioMulch environment.

AudioMulch can be used to process and generate sound files or as a live performance instrument.

AudioMulch allows any processing parameter to be controlled via MIDI. It can synchronise to an external MIDI clock source or generate MIDI clocks which other devices can synchronise with. You can also synchronise copies of AudioMulch running on different computers using a wired or wireless network.

Up to 24 channels of real-time audio input and output can be generated and / or processed by AudioMulch when used in conjunction with a multi-channel soundcard.

For multi-channel and surround sound applications AudioMulch supports recording and playback of multi-channel sound-files, or multiple synchronised sound-files.

It's not enough

Well, I use this program for almost 2 years, and I think that everyone using it one day will say: damn, it's not enough for me! It has low amount of effects (until you start to connect it in different ways), and tha main thing which differs it from real synthesizers and mixers: you can't use both hands together to use different effects at the same time! There should be a possibility to use this program with keyboard. Or maybe there is? I also don't use any plugins - where can I get them from? How does it work? Maybe if I star to use them, I wlii change my opinion...because generally I recon it as a good program.

(Sound IN) problems

my mic wont stop reverbing or repeating what am saying does anybody know what that can be what kind of plugin or evtra program do i need to stop that but other then that it a good program

audiomulch INFO

i have been using the audiomulch program ever since 0.2B and i can honestly say its a good program for anyone who would want to experiment
or create musical tracks.its got something for everyone ,though having the certain best VST and VST2 plugins help in rendering the best of audiomulch sounds.
of the true audiomulch sounds.

audiomulch feedback/static

When I use AudioMulch real-time I get a static background noise. Is there a way besides adjusting the levels, to rid this. I use Sound Forge 4.5 with no problems.

God be blessed

....for allowing us,from time to time, to get in the way of little delights like AUDIOMULCH is. And... of course, God, please, donĀ“t forget to give the guy that took the effort to create it, his reward, so that he keeps on working and possibly creating new jewels like this one is. For our pleasure.

No CPU load?

Know this may sound a lil absurd, but working on a AMD K6/400MHz processor, Win
98 SE 32 MB RAM with Yamaha soundcard computer the program can't load even the
examples - CPU load stays at 0.0.
If you have the time I'll appreciate getting a hint how to fix this (posted here or mailed to chokkki@yahoo.com) .
Thanx in advance

How do I get plug-ins to work?

How do I get plug ins to work? The submenus are created when I put the plugins into the vst menu, but not responding when I pull them up in contraptions. Please help as I know the awesome power of this combination. Thanks
Chris

Hi - first make sure you've got the latest version, 0.9b7, cos it's got copy and paste of automation info which makes this wonderful program even better. I like it so much I registered it!!!!

You can't really loop in AM (as in return to a nominated position and start playing again from there, and then continue on to the next section) - bummer, but hey, it's still in beta.

You CAN get it to repeat a nominated number of bars over and over. press the loop button on the top line (looks like a little blue oval with an arrow head).

Now two little cursors will appear at the far left of the top of the automate panel. You can move these independently, and the section they enclose will repeat indefinitely.

So you could put the right hand cursor at bar 8 and the left hand cursor at bar 4. When you press play, AM will play the first four bars of your composition once, and will then play from bar 4 to bar 8 for ever.

Automation: first check the help file - under user topics, open user reference and you will see a topic labelled getting started with automation. This has pretty much the full info you will need.

quick reference: select a contraption (say the bass line synth, and link it to a sound out). Right click on a control (say resonance). A box will open - click automate.

A channel will appear in the automation section at the bottom of the screen (if it isn't visible press F7 to show the panel). Click on the line and move it up or down - do this a few times at different points along the line.

Press Play: voila, automated resonance sweeps!

You can do automated patch changes on contraptions and all sorts of amazing stuff. Press F3 for another way of getting to automate functions.

Happy Mulching, Alec.

expire is bad thing

I'm interested in composing goth industrial music and thought I should try a shareware program to see if I can do it. (Or if I'm terrible, I won't have hundreds of dollars sunk into something I will never use.) The licence Info doesn't state what the registration fee is? Am I looking at going broke for this?

Best Soft Synth

Basically, the best things in life are free, or almost free and that includes audiomulch. Ive been using audiomulch for about a year and a half and have not come across anything comparable. The truly amazing thing about it is like all great synths and guitars, it has its own sound. It doesnt sound like other soft synths and it doesnt sound like typical electronica (when used with its full editing capacity, as its meant to be used). Thank God for Ross Bencina. I think the audiomulch community should throw him a big party. :-]

Audiomulch - the bees knees

oh my word this is too good, i downloaded this yesterday and i havent been able to get off it..amazing, does anyone think is this better or worse than Orion???

audiomulch

thank you so much. The combs filter as well as the spat are great tools.

ways i've used this software

this is great software, iv'e been updating for about a year now and i'd like to share what i've learned. Frist the more and better samples you have are the better the finished product will. You should get a sampler editor too seeing as Amulch doesn't come wiht one.The one great thing tis that this software can sequence samples really good and really simple. after i have patterns in the drums module I run it through the bassline sequencer. this turns off the note generator, but the res., cutoff, decay, lfo and env. fliter still effect the sound.this along with vst plugins make the software flexable.

slow...

I used mulch with virtual pc win 2000.

But It was too slow.....

Mulcher can kick some major A**!!!

This program is very powerful & unique. It is similar to Rubber Duck although it has some extra trix up its sleeves... Since you can use your own drum samples, I would say that it is quite flexible & I think its really great. Nice filters & fx/modules combination... Check it out all you techno-heads!!!

worth getting .. really cool!

Spent all nite downloading software off this site..
This is a keeper.. need to play with it some more then
will most likely reg it. COOL ASS SOUNDS
not canned crap. creativity leaks outta it :)

disregard previous post it was groovestation not this audiomulc
