The main problem seems to be the Volume control on Windows. The problem is that as well as the "Playback" Control theres also a "Record" control. So, althought you can hear the Music thought the Speakers it might not be recording thought the Counter. To over come this, try opening your Volume controller in windows and goto "Options" and Then "Properties" if you look around you should see a button saying "adjust volume for..." click on Recording, then ok. Then try changing the Controls till the Graphics bar just touchs the first red light. This should be the idea setup and will make the counter work a lot better.
