: You are mistaken: mpga stands for mpeg audio
: : If I'm not mistaken, MPGA stands for Motion Pictures Group Audio
MPEG means Moving Picture Experts Group.
The long form file extension is MPEG, usually associated with video files.
MPG is one version of the file extension.
Adding the A simply designates that the MPEG file is a sound file following one of the MPEG audio standards. The most popular was the MP3, which has taken on a life of its own in common recognition.
