Remove unwanted noise from recordings, LPs etc

Our current audio denoising efforts started with the challenge to try to recover as much as possible from a totally corrupted wax-cylinder, capturing Johannes Brahms playing one of his Hungarian Dances. The original recording was made in 1889 by an agent of Thomas Edison, in Brahms's appartement in Vienna. In a first attempt, we have managed to recover sufficient information to carry out the MIDI reconstruction of a passage, in which Brahms departs significantly from his score in free improvisation (sound examples). Subsequently, we have refined our technique for application in more realistic situations.

Brahms wax cylinder examples:
Original (AIFF, .WAV, .snd), denoised segment (AIFF, .WAV, .snd), and denoised segment with super-imposed MIDI (AIFF, .WAV, .snd).

D/Noise 1.0d f2 problems

hi,

ummm i have been trying for a few days to download
D/Noise 1.0d and have not been able to do. I tried
to go there site but my browser responds with "no
DNS" entry.

Has this site moved??? Could you help???

thanking you greatly,

christian.

PS noise is my greatest concern and i was wondering
could you perhaps recommend something else beside
D/Noise to remove unwanted noise. I tried raygun
but it tends to produce clicks...any idea...cheers.

Re: D/Noise 1.0d f2 problems

Thad Brown author of xlr8yourMac audio column has recommended sonicWorx as an editor. He is particularly complementary of the denoiser plug-in which he says keeps the audio intact while eliminating noise. Apparently it is not a real time effect rather it takes a long time (hours) to clean up poorly tracked audio segment on low end PowerMacs. I would like to give RayGun a shot if you have the inclination. Prosoniq ( progenator of SonicWorx)has a basic editor which is free. It contains fully functional effects and I use it regularly. Unfortunately only some fo the effects are included in the free SONICWORKS ARTISTS BASIC PACAKAGE and the denoiser is not enabled. I don't know what the cost of the full package is but I am investigating it as I have a rather noisy room with a constant/predictable background noise level. I will let you know what I find out about it.
