Sound library

Hi there

I have got some great drumkit from the net. But it is not as easy to use as other samples. When using drum Wizard (from Everest), how can I know where to place the different samples (snare, hihat etc.).

If this is done correctly, how can I access the new program from my seqencer(Cubase vst). It seems that when I try to replace the rom GM-drumset with the new drum program, I still hear the built in rom GM-drumset. Where should I place the new on - on which program number??

Have any of you out there been experimenting with theese items ? Any comments?

Thanks
Flemming Petersson

Re: Sound library

The MA-1 synth is hardwired on channel 10 to play the internal Drum Kit. This is pretty lame, but that is the way it is.

You can not change the program on channel 10, even with a "Program Change" message.

As for setting up a standard "GM Kit" using the drum wizard, well that's sort of difficult. I think I will make this easier in the future, by having the GM defaults given. Otherwise, you have to have a list of the GM drum kit (this should be easy to find if you look around on the web) and then count keys in the Everest drum kit wizard.

Converting sound font's

Hi there.

I,m using APEX soundcard with Cubase and Everest.

I have downloaded some soundfiles from various homepages F.x. from :
FTP directory /pub/Kurzweil/Pro_Products/K2000-K2vx-K2500/Samples/ at ftp.youngchang.com

These samples have the KRZ extension, which should be loaded directly into everest. But I haven't been very successful with that method. Instead I load the samle into Awave 4.31 and save then as .PBF formats. When I then load them into everest, everything seems o.k. But not allways. Sometimes when I try to load a .PBF program into the everest (1.47) scratch-bank, nothing is beeing loaded. What is going wrong (Any idea Mark)?

O.K.- the problem is'nt that big, because I can use the splendid 'tonal program wizard' to load all the samples stored in the PBF file, and then save the whole thing as EMB-file. But I am not sure if I miss any information that way.

I have tried a lot of different formats, and been most lycky with foreign soundformats, when they have been throgh Awave. The .PBF programs works usually fine without that conversion. But there don't seems to be may of them - or what?
Have any of you out there ane expiriences with downloaded soundfonts ??

Best regards

Awave sometimes does not save programs in a .pbf file if they are based on
ROM keymaps or samples. Perhaps that is why you don't
see anything in the scratch bank.

By the way, "SoundFonts" are a specific type of file format that was developed by EMU for Creative Labs AWE cards. Don't confuse it with generic bank files, like .pbf or .krz. SoundFonts have an extension of ".sf2"

I realize that the .krz and .sf2 loading feature of Everest is not complete yet... Awave does a better job on RAM samples, but it totally ignores ROM samples. Everest tries to pick the closest sounding ROM keymap if available.

Re: Converting sound font's

I have a simple problem
I used to have an AWE32, and I loved soundfonts

Re: Converting sound fonts

Try Awave. It works on tons of formats. I'm surprised you haven't already checked it out, as it was mentioned twice in this thread alone...

Re: Converting sound fonts to DLS

Hello there!,

I read a message in a news group about having many .sf2 files and wanting to convert them to DLS format. I'm in the same boat as many with my new turtle beach card that only excepts DLS. I have found a program called Awave that appears to convert flawlessly. You can do a search for it easily. The demo version is highly crippled doen't allow one to do complete banks. What I have used of the demo has worked well and I have been considering to buy it except at $55.00 US I think there must be something a little cheaper out there. Please let me know if someone has info on something cheaper.

Thank you,
Edward Fisher,
