You can purchase Igor Engraver from our website, www.noteheads.com, for USD 295. Students get a USD 100 discount. You can also run it 30 days for free, which means you can really try it out and start working with it professionally before you decide if it's worth buying.

It's still buggy, but...

Yeah, I agree, it's very large,
very buggy, and very very slow.

But it has a very good quality
and it's really promising.

The final version will be released in August 2001, they say.

And they'll probably release a PR3, I hope more stable and fast than the PR2. Anyway, the quality is VERY good...

Re: It's still buggy, but...

The most sensible response I've seen...

I think I've just witnessed the magnitude of idiotic replies that people actually *do* make

Re: It's still buggy, but...

: The most sensible response I've seen...

The Preview releases were never aimed at professional music publishing, but just a taste of what kind of features Windows users could expect in the near future. I'm glad both Romaz and David realised this.

Version 1.5, and even more so the consecutive versions, are much faster and much more satble as well.

Enjoy!

Don' t download it

25 Mbyte for a Prerelease program that *DON'T* import MIDI FILE. Very poor.
I suggest to DON'T DOWNLOAD IT

Do you actually know what MIDI is? Musical Instruments Digital Interface.
Do you actually know what Igor Engraver is? A music NOTATION program. You can notate music with IE, is not a MIDI-sequencer.
You should take a look at the sequencer's downloadpage at this site.

Does anyone know how I can run this program? Everytime I try, my computer restarts.

Dear Martijn,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, as NIFF is not a de facto standard for music notation files as yet (we will soon add support for it, however), MIDI files provides almost the only way to exchange files between different notation programs. Speaking of sequencers: although you're right Igor Engraver is not designed to be a sequencer, it gives excellent playback results. Several composers I know use a sequencer to record their music, and then they export that music to Igor Engraver, just to make the music sound more "alive".

Regarding your support question - if you still experience such problems - don't hesitate to email support@noteheads.com.

Alright, so you're suggesting just because it doesn't import MIDI that its not worth downloading? I think your response was very poor

Dear Alfred -

The final version sure includes MIDI import, and it actually offers the most advanced MIDI import functions we ourselves have ever seen in any program. You can even define the number of nested tuplets Igor Engraver is to recognise, and a whole lot of other parameters.

I suggest you download the program and try it yourself (30 days of free use).

THEY'VE GOT A LOOOOOONNNNGGGG WAY TO GO!

DON'T EVEN WASTE YOUR TIME DOWNLOADING THIS MONSTER. AT THE RATE NOTEHEADS MOVES, IT'LL TAKE ANOTHER YEAR BEFORE THIS THING IS EVEN CLOSE TO BEING FUNCTIONAL ON THE PC.

Read the requirements, does your system come under them?

Oh yeah... and could you make anything better? Then do so, don't go around putting down other software.

Dear Cliff,

I'm surprised to see you think NoteHeads moves slowly. In fact, we've issued a number of updates to the Windows 1.5 version, and we also have a unique updating procedure: When you have started your copy of Igor Engraver, go to Check for patches... and click OK. Igor Engraver will now automatically connect to our server and search for new updates to the program.

If there is one (there are usually a few issued every week - so we are not that slow really...) or more update patches, Igor Engraver will download them and they start working immediately. You don't even have to restart the program.

Some things are not easily patchable, and therefore we issue new versions several times each year. All 1.x upgrades are free of charge.
