Software Description
Impulse Tracker is a revolutionary new music tracker under development in South Australia by Jeffrey Lim (Pulse/PoP). It is quite similar to the popular Scream Tracker by Future Crew, and is therefore quite easy to learn. Features:

- Easy to-use, familiar Scream Tracker 3 style interface.
- Direct control over 64 channels.
- Maximum of 256 internal channels for greater sound quality, using NNAs (New Note Actions); Full panning (on SBPro, SB16 and GUS).
- Stereo Surround (on SBPro and SB16).
- Variable pattern lengths.
- Full block functions available (across-channel also!)
- Volume envelopes.
- Ping Pong loops and sustain loops for samples.
- Global volumes for channels and samples.

I have an old machine with an SB Live and I have been spending all of my free time for the last week trying to get IT working in it. I was getting extremely frustrated with the SB Live driver taking up so much memory that IT couldn't even start.
Well, I'm glad I didn't give up, because yesterday I finally got it!
The solution? Use MS-DOS 7.1 - download here: http://ms-dos7.hit.bg/ The installer even asks if you want to install sound card drivers, and SB Live is in the list!
It's working great for me now and I can enjoy the anachronistic pleasure of DMA audio :D Hope this helps!

Is there a converter from .wma,.mp3,.wave to .it?
It would be awesome to get my own songs on grid wars and it wold be awesome if there wasn't alot of work involved.

download a program called vdmsound and install it...you must create a .pif file to run IT from, to make it locate the vdmsound

1. Save wav file from Winamp
Go to Options > Preferences > Output > Select 'Nullsoft Direct Sound Output'
Play song in Winamp once (dont forget to disable loop). You wont hear sound and as output you will have a wav file ready to be compressed.
2. Compress to .mp3 (e.g. with audacity.sourceforge.net)
I CANNOT ACCESS MS-DOS
Hey,
Can anybody tell me why after I download IT and copy it into a floppy and try to open it it doesnt do anything?. Can anybody tell me what program I should open it under. I know it has to be thru MS-DOS but what command. Or if you have any other suggestions on how to open it.
Converting .IT to .MIDI
Please help! I'm making an RPG, but the one who is creating the music for it prefers to work with .IT files. Is there any way I can convert .IT to .MID?

And, read the midi.txt that comes with IT. It describes how to set up midi out properly.

Also, Modplug Tracker plays IT modules and can do midi output.

IT can output midi, so set up instruments to midi channels (F4->Pitch). Put each instrument on it's own channel. You only get 16 of them out at a time, but repeat this for the rest.
Then play it and record the midi (with another computer or something like that)
Also, you might have to set up Midi Output from IT: Shift-F1
MIDI Start: FC
MIDI Stop: FF
MIDI Tick: FA
Note On: 9cnv
Note Off: 8cnv
Change Volume: Bc07 v
Change Pan: Bc A xz
Program Change: Cc p
The volumes from IT modules don't correspond to MIDI instrument volumes, so better wipe them from the module.

Impulse tracker graphic problem
Hi all,
I've got a really strange graphical IT problem and can figure it out by myself, maybe someone can help me.
I want to use IT on my old laptop [Modplug or any other programs are not an option for me].
But when I start IT [no matter if it is in plain MS-Dos or a MS-Dos box] I get scrambled characters in the sample screen [F3] where the "wave" is displayed and in the envelope [F4] screen where the envelope is displayed.
All the text looks fine and the program works fine, with enough memory, but the graphical parts, such as the envelope line are only weird characters.
I already tried the command lines "v1" and "v2", but the problem exists. Also the Impulse tracker starting logo is displayed in weird characters.
I first thought it was a LCD problem but when I attach a normal monitor the problem is also there.
System specs of my Toshiba Satellite 4080XCDT:
Intel Pentium II 366mhz
64mb ram
ESS Maestro soundcard
Trident Cyber952 graphic card
Teac CD-rom
6.4HD
Maybe someone can help me out, I would be very happy.

As far I know Impulse Tracker works under windows quite well. Maybe it's a problem with that soundcard of yours. Try refering to drivers.txt there are some switches witch will enable you to force the use of certain drivers. It may help.

Use DOSBox. Turn your CPU cycles up to about 15000 if you have a 2.5ghz or better system - runs smooth as butter on mine.
Some of the later Creative Labs cards (like the Audigy, etc.) will not emulate the SB16 in MS-DOS mode within Win98 like the Live! cards did. DOSBox is really the only solution in this matter, and you should have a pretty fast computer in order to use it.
Problem solved
Use Schism tracker instead. It is purely Impulse Tracker redesigned fow Windows. Export WAV in 2 seconds, support stereo samples... and is absolutely free!

font upgrade / using sb awe 32 in windows 98
I get an error message when i try the font upgrade program, why is this? Also, whats the best way to set up an awe 32 soundcard to run impulse tracker in windows 98?

i have windows 2000. i downloaded sound fx nt 2.01. now it detecs my soundcars but when i run it what happens is it's all funny glitch. when i clic somewhere a little square apears and it turn another color! if i hold a clic and i move the mouse it makes a square like when you clic on desktop. i read the help file and i dint under stand a thing. could somebody tell me how to fix this?
Impulse Tracker Windows ME
I can´t make my IT work on winME. It keeps sending me a no extended memory available. I´ve tried everything, adding those lines in my config.sys and autoexec.bat but nothing worked. Can someone help me??

Impulse tracker is dead...
unforchenatly... i liked it couse it was very quick and all had HOTKEYS...

Nobody appreciates music for music anymore. It's all about how high quality you can make your music sound. Give me a freakin chip pack any day.

Yo I'm a rookie on Impulse Tracker 2 (DOS) I've done 2 patterns of my tune but I can't get them to play one after the other- when ever I play the track it just loops the first patteren and its driving me nuts! Can someone please tell me how and where to insert some kind of break at the end of the first pattern so that it goes straight to the second. Thanx!

You have to list the patterns in that order that you want to play them. Press F11 there you can find the list at the left side on the screen.

The number is the pattern number. I hope this helped...

Press F11 so you can enter the order in which the patterns are played. Remember, F1 always shows the commands you can use in the program.
You should also check out the manual, which is supposedly included in the files. It´s worth printing.

IT´s to WAV's to CD
What would be the easiest way of recording my IT tracks on CD? I don´t have a writing cd, but I have a friend who has. Is there some kinda converter which could convert IT-tracks into WAV´s? I can´t seem to find one.

Use Winmpg I think thats what its called you can save as a wav.

you only need to install "SoundFX NT 2.01".
you can get it under www.maz-sound.de,
for example (in the tracker dir.)

Yeah.... DSPAudio doesn't even carry the group who is working on it anymore, so who knows?
Too bad, though... was looking forward to mixing some songs I made with IT within IT3... if that feature would even work like they said it would...

What I want to talk about is the development of IT in the near future. I received my WAV-Writer and the latest patch from Jeffrey. I asked him about continue for registered users, but there was no comment (I guess all of you know the past..).

How can i modify the EWS 64 XL driver for the EWS 64 S?
this soundcard (ews64s) is similar to the terratec ews64 xl, expected the codec chip.

Impulse Tracker and MIDI Out MPU-401
Hi,
i have severe problems trying to send MIDI out
data through the MPU-401 Port of my soundcard to
other Windows applications. Windows says "device
is already in use" when i try to route the data
with Hubi's Midi Cable. Even in DOS mode i can't
figure out how make IT send Midi data into a cable.
can you help here ?

anybody who doesn't use impulse tracker is missing out.
i used to use scream tracker but i found it too slow. i chenged to impulse tracker and i see a big difference. the only problem i ran across is that the coded were a little different. oh and by the way........FAST TRACKER SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
