Re: Recording own vinyl

I would like any info any1 has out there about this subject too. please email me about it. I figure there has to be a cheap way of doing it since the original inventors had no big equipment or money and it should just be a matter of physics. Most expensive thing i can think of is the lathe itself since it has to be ultra sensitive and accurate. seems like you could build it onto a tough direct drive turntable. If any1 out there can school me on any ideas please do. Wish me luck on my caveman cutter I've even been wondering about recycling old vinyl by melting it down in blank molds what do you guys think??

Recording own vinyl

I guess there's other way... lemme explain this on a flea market i've found some old 12" on white packages and type-writed labels. I bring one to home and you can hear the song labeled, but when it ends there's the last part of other song, it's recorded over... the question is how?

I am an engineering student, I am working on a prototype lathe. vintage lathes can be around 14,000$. I have spent over 300 hours of research on this project. I am finishing up my cnc manufacturing class now. I have some drawings done. When they are complete I can make hundreds of replica lathes. Right now I am looking for tube amp schematics.

How to make vinyl to mp3 louder?

When I am trying to record with LP recorder, the auto level is too low. Then the waw file is too quiet. I just would like to make it louder. Please help.

Re: How to make vinyl to mp3 louder?

If your record player has a magnetic cartridge
make sure your run the signal through a stereo
receiver or pre-amp first.
Read the Steve Bass column in the PC World May
2001 issue.

Re: How to make vinyl to mp3 louder?

Dude, thanks for the article suggestion...
I've been looking for this info for my father-in-law so he can lose his reel-to-reel and turn-table from his audio setup...

It had a lot of great information that I'm going to pass along to him.

I think that makes two really productive things I've done with the net now in the past 7 years. :) ha.

cables

What type of cable do you use to hook up your amp (two audio outputs) to the sound card input jack? How do you refer to this cable? What is its name and where can you buy one?

cable connections

I'm confused as to the cabling between the phonograph and the PC sound card. Can someone tell me how to do that? For one, do I connect directly from the turntable to the mic port or do I run a cable from the speaker "out" connectors of the phonograph to the mic port of the sound card.

Re: cable connections

Hi,
there are two ways I figured out to solve your problems:
1. Hook up the "Tape 2" output from your amplifier to the "line in" of your soundcard. Then you should use a recording software to adjust the input sensitivity to avoid overload on the input channels. You need a cable adapter Cinch-Klinke (2 in 1).
2. "Terratec" has a so called "Phono PreAmp"-bos wich you can fit directly between your soundcard and the turntable (unamplified). This box amplifies the signal to the needs of the soundcard. Price: approx. 150.- DM

Hope I could be of help

This is quite expensive, phono preamps cost about DM 40 (Westfalia, that means no-name made in china stuff) until DM 70 (Conrad - seems to be a quality product). For 150 you can get a cheap dj mixer with two preams builtin.

No way to edit the blank space at the head and tail of the recording. In other words, must edit "on the fly." If you miss, oh well, start over.
