Just go ahead and use the onboard 'soundcard'
and see if your father is happy with the results.
'soundcard' is used rather generically these days
to mean an actual card or a chipset.

: my father got a copy of LP recorder 4.1 from a PC User magazine cover CD and wants to use it to rip his LPs. i see the system rquirements mention a "Windows Mixer-compatible Soundcard" but he only has Sound on-board with a line-in plug.
: will it work for him or does he have to buy a soundcard? i have suggested he get a decent soundcard regardless, but he'd like to try what he has first before he spends any money.
