Re: LIME nativity *does* = 1975

: I just wanted to say that Shareware Music Machine need not doubt the 1975 date on LIME's birth. I was using it at Florida State U. in 1978 - and it was stable and useful at that point (running under "PLATO" : go look up your computer history, under 'C.E.R.L.,U.I.U.C.', and 'C.D.C.') -
: It is still quite simple and useful: I paid, & run it on Win-doze and Mac. Will there be an OSX-'cocoa' port?

Actually, it was the Lime Staff that wrote this blurb and we weren't sure of the date. We'll change it.

Well, I admit it.... I've been using Lime for a few months and haven't paid yet.....I had to do something stupid first, like BUY SOME COMMERCIAL STUFF OUT THERE.
Why? Because if Lime was this fantasic for the price.. then the pretty packaged stuff had to be even better... right? W R O N G ! ! ! !
I'm sending in my cash this week.....

Thanks Lime people...... :)

I downloaded it and when I try and 'hear' something, it doesn't work!!

1. Check your MIDI output. At least ONE of them
should work (last item in HEAR MENU)
2. Select which voice(s) you want to hear
(first item in the HEAR MENU).
3. Click on the first note of the part you want

Lime

Great stuff! I like the WYSIWYG. I like the on-screen piano keyboard. I like the
handling of bars. I like the handling of fonts. I like the speed. I like the size.
I like the 155-page manual.

(Haven't found anything that I DON'T like)

No watermarks. No nag screens (can't really call the little message at the start a nag).

Only need the bucks to register ... any volunteers?

scale printing

Does anyone know how to scale down this program so you can fit the whole stave with say, 10 parts, onto a single sheet?? Any help would be appreciated

Re: scale printing

: Does anyone know how to scale down this program so you can fit the whole stave with say, 10 parts, onto a single sheet?? Any help would be appreciated

You could try lying about the size of the page, I've used this to increase the margins. Also copying it into word as a graphic and then resizing might do the trick. - best of luck

DON'T BUY OR USE LIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a problem with Lime so I e-mailed the company and they will NOT respond. I have sent 4 e-mails with no response!! If I can't get the demo version to work, I'm surely not going to go and buy it but the company doesn't seem to understand that.

SWMM BANNER

Hi,

What can we say? If you don't like Lime, don't use it. None of the developers are in it for the money. We do it because we love it. Though I find it difficult to believe four messages were unanswered. Occassionally we get mail with a bad return address (in which case there is nothing we can do), but 4 messages from the same person would have been noticed. Where did you send the email? Most email is answered that day and often within the hour. Occasionally it goes a few days if the problem requires some investigating.

That's the same reason most of us are in music.
So why isn't the software free then?

Re: DON'T BUY OR USE LIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - W R O N G :)

it's the best there is...... and even better for the price........ chill out and learn to use it.... you will use no other for... oh... let's say anyware from $150.00 to over $500.00 - where buy the way, you can still receive some crappy support.

Re: DON'T BUY OR USE LIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I assume you're using Lime for Windows and the
way to fix this is to turn down video hardware
acceleration. Go to Start | Settings |
Control Panel | Display then Settings and then
click on Advanced and turn down the acceleration
one tick and try Lime. You might have to reboot
every tick and I've helped one other person with
this but he never told me how much he turned it down.

Your advice is correct, Albert

I have seen this same symptom myself and the answer is to reduce graphics acceleration just as you have advised. Reduce acceleration one step at a time until the symptom is gone.

Re: DON'T BUY OR USE LIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lime is the best notation software I have ever used and I have had excellent support from the developers. I was so impressed with the software I sent my payment for the software within just a few days of downloading the trial version. The software is simple to use and yet it is the most flexible of any available. If you will explain in detail the problem you are having, I am sure you will get an excellent response.

Re: DON'T BUY OR USE LIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Lime is the best notation software I have ever used..."

Well, since you haven't said what you've used that doesn't say anything to anyone but you.

You seem to be missing a major point here. Ryan is absolutely correct in his logic, whether you agree with him about the product or not. Crappy to non-existant support is a SERIOUS issue to contend with when you're buying ANY software these days. And where have you been that you haven't noticed that EVERY SINGLE piece of software that exists these days is filled with bubble-headed multi page agreements that more or less say that the author has no obligation to do ANYTHING, including making sure that the stuff he/she is selling even WORKS. This is the only industry that has gotten away with this sort of thing, from Microfluff to shareware. Withholding your purchasing dollars is the ONLY way to get through to any software developer turned retailer and make clear to them that they will not get your money without providing a) a stable product and b)decent support.

There have been 6753 Windows Lime downloads (plus 379 Lime Viewer downloads and 1022 abbreviated manual downloads) from this web site since November 2000.

No offense to the authors, but if the product is that great it's numbers aren't reflecting it. Considering that far fewer than half the people who download actually follow through and purchase then "the best notation software I have ever used..." is a very well kept secret.

As with all underwater equipment - the key to making it waterproof is the o-ring. Housed systems typically have 1 major O-ring between the shell halves, and one or two at the port end. (2 more if you have a port extension) These are considered the 'user accessible' ones.

Each one of the controls on the housing and the flash bulkheads are also sealed with one or more o-rings, generally considered 'not user accessible.'

Good O-ring maintenance is the key to avoiding floods. Keep them in good shape and you should have little to worry about. These means keeping them lightly lubricated and free of any hair, lint, salt crystals, or other foreign debris that might prevent a good seal.

Use freshwater rinses religiously and you can show no fear when someone asks you that popular question of "Aren't you worried about a flood?" I personally think that the housings today are extremely reliable, and that a leak is caused either by user error or poor maintenance. Having all-risk insurance on your camera is not a bad idea either.

Re: DON'T BUY OR USE LIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

This is the point of the demo. If it doesn't work, don't register it. There are some cases where for whatever reason you can't get it to work on your setup. You represent, however, 1% of Lime users, so I suspect the problem is local.

:If I can't get the demo version to work, I'm surely not going to go and buy it but the company doesn't seem to understand that.

Re: DON'T BUY OR USE LIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr Lime,

>"This is the point of the demo. If it doesn't >work, don't register it."

A little touchy perhaps? Maybe that's why you entirely missed the point of what was said...

The poster was not upset or complaining because the product didn't WORK. He was upset about the lack of SUPPORT.

>You represent, however, 1% of Lime users, so I >suspect the problem is local.

This strikes me as an extremely snotty retort. Yes, it's already been established (apparently by the numbers on your own webite) that 1 customer = 1% of Lime users. Your comment is completely useless and does nothing to address the issue raised...it only shows you trying to salve your own bruised ego and more or less telling a potential customer that's he's the ONLY (ONLY???? 1% is HUGE!) one on the planet with some sort of issue with you and that the issue is HIS problem.

Come to think of it, with an attitude like that, you don't need my money either. Oooooh. 2%!!!!!

NIFF to BMP?

Does anyone one know if it is possible to convert NIFF files to BMP format? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: NIFF to BMP?

- Import the file into Lime
- press Print Screen
- Open Paint and Edit | Paste
- Chop out whatever you don't want.

How do I buy it?

I've spent weeks with various demos and this is by far the best. How much is it and how do I buy it?

Re: How do I buy it?

: I've spent weeks with various demos and this is by far the best. How much is it and how do I buy it?

You can get it free at andr.net. In the search bar, put "Lime". Download the patch. Unzip it and install it on Lime. Go into Lime and Click on the purchased button. Put anything in the box. It WILL work!!!!

I can't get it to work!

I don't know what I need to do in order to make it work, or even what it is going to do once I get it there. I'm working on a Beatles medley and my hand writing (music at least) is illegable! I wanted a program that I could use to write the music, so it will come out better. Any help would be great!

Re: I can't get it to work!

Hi,

We can't help you unless you help us. Not getting it to work is pretty vague. Most people get it up and running without much problem, but as was suggested, the manual is pretty clear.

Please Sir ....
Would you please send me your notation of those song to play it on my own home?

Try reading the manual - It's written pretty well.

Exporting EPS File into Word '97

Hello and Help:

Get following error message & lock-up: "EPS Internal Error: Failed to open original EPS
File."

Have a demo version of Lime 5.10. Think I've correctly followed
Rectangle for Print Selection manual instructions for exporting EPS files to Word '97.

Lime otherwise seems to work fine. Have also confirmed presence of Epsimp32.flt in
Windows shared file folder. Please advise? Thanks. Daniel.

Re: Exporting EPS File into Word '97

Hi,

I don't work with Windows that much, but I've had reports from users that the most recent Windows release works the way the Mac version does (and the way it was originally designed), where you just define the rectangle and copy and paste into the MS doc.

Diamond Note Heads

I can't seem to get the note heads to fill in. Both on
the screen and in print, they are hollow diamonds (all
notes, Quarter, Half, eighth, etc).
Is this a curse of the demo version, or am I missing
something?

Re: Diamond Note Heads

There are several types of note heads that can be used with Lime. Check page 13 of the manual for a discussion. Try clicking repeatedly on the notehead symbol before you enter a note. You can cycle through a list of alternative noteheads (including no notehead at all)

Lime user group?

I'm trying out Lime. I like it so far, but
would like to find an active user group forum.
Is this it? I didn't notice any support links
when I downloaded the program.

Thanks

Re: Lime user group?

We have discussed this a number of times and are working on a possibility with a third party. The problem has always been a person willing to maintain the group. It should be up in the next few months.

The other problem is that Lime is really pretty easy to use, so a sight (such as this one) doesn't get much traffic.

Me too - I'm getting on well with it, but a support group would be great.

Voices and Parts.

David, (or any others)
Thanks to you, Lippold Haken, Dorothea Blostein, Paul S. Christensen and others on the CERL team for developing this software.
I'm in my evaluation mode right now, but I am very impressed. When I demo other scoring / notation packages, I often only get as far as their lame user interface before I decide it's not worth the trouble.
Recently, I helped to Beta test a new version of a popular commercial package and I was not as impressed as I hoped to be. The inadequate documentation was in the form of a "Getting Started" book and and on-line help. I digress.
Much of what I want to do is to rearrange hymns for piano rather than the congregational singers it was written for. I imported the midi file for one particular hymn into Lime one voice (not part) at a time and was very happy to see *most* of the proper note and rest values. This being a piano piece, there are two tracks. Now there are two notes assigned per voice and I can't figure out how to separate them into parts. The "Separate" button is grayed out, so that won't work.
The second problem I am having is when I imported the piece in, I couldn't find the place to put the numerical metronome value to assign to the note value I selected.
The third, (so far, final) problem, is that no matter which key signature I selected, the notes were all about 12 pitches too high.

Even though this seems like a lot of questions, this is nothing like the problems I had with other notation programs.

Larry Autry

Re: Voices and Parts.

1- Once you have two notes assigned to a single voice Lime will not separate them unless you create a new voice and use copy and paste to paste it to the new voice. Parts and voices is probably the most confusing aspect of any copy program. If you wan't two voices you need to start with two voices.

2- I don't understand the second question.

3- Your third question is a little unclear too. If you are trying to transpose you need to choose a key signature and then select transpose notes to new key. If you are entering notes and they are too high then keyboard shift may be the problem, or your synthesizer may be set to an octave higher.

:Now there are two notes assigned per voice and I can't figure out how to separate them into parts. The "Separate" button is grayed out, so that won't work.

Printing

When I try to print, it prints little checkered things and letters on the staff. Is this because it is the evaluation version? Can anyone help?

Re: Printing

I had the same problem after loading Win98, and had to play around with the printer properties (HP LJIII), specifically under the Fonts tab changing it so True Type fonts printed as graphics rather than bitmap soft fonts.

Re: Printing

Re: Printing

Did you install the two fonts (Marl and Tufa) that were downloaded with the program? I'm not sure but it sounds like you do not have the music symbol fonts working.
