PTfree MIDI issue
Hi,
When I enable MIDI beat clock, the MIDI beat clock doesnt remain checked (check mark) in the MIDI drop down menu. I can record MIDI info, but am unable to send to output. AMD duron 1100mhz, 20GB op drive, 80GB rec drive, WinME - thanx

I have spent the last couple of weeks, tearing my hair out trying to get this to work without DAE errors. I have tried dual booting; Windows 98 and Windows Me; VMWare and MS Virtual PC... I have finally got it to work.
You need:
Windows XP installed
Microsoft Virtual PC 2004
Windows 89 installation disk
Pro Tools Free
Install Virtual PC, install Windows 98 onto that (Virtual PC will deal with all the video and audio drivers...hopefully), then install Pro Tools Free onto Windows 98.
I have tried Windows Me with a dual boot, with VMWare and with Virtual PC and every time, Pro Tools Free crashed while opening, so I can only assume that Pro Tools Free is NOT compatable with 'Me.
Crashin on XP when launching
Got Problems with PT LE 6.4.
My system is XP Home with Penium4 1GB RAM and 3,2GHz. The free HD space is 12,4 GB. I've installed PT succesful. Bad everytime when I try to launch it collapses my system and reboots. Got someone a clue what is the problem?

PT Free doesn't run on XP - it was written for 98...

I was just wondering if anyone could give me advice on recording just an acoustic guitar and vocals. Do i need a microphone plugged to my computer, and then one of these recording programs? or is there other ways?? again, i just need a simple recording method

I had this same problem!
I had this same problem. you have to uninstall pro tools 6.4. Then go to http://archive.digidesign.com/download/audiodrivers/xp/ and download the audio driver at the bottom of the page. After you install the audio driver then reinstall pro tools 6.4 and it should run smooth.

PT free/Windows ME/and what 4 track in hardware do you recommend
This is my first dealing with Pro tools ever. I simply want to cost effectively move 4 track recordings into the pro tools environment for mixing. Currently I can get two channels of analog in via the 1/8 inch input that was already on my PC. Can someone advise me about getting 4 tracks in at the same time.

Just wanted to clear it up - are there no free downloads for Pro Tools for Windows XP available anywhere? Will no other downloads work?

First, how to record my music??? Good question...Back 30 years ago...Pnly one way...musiuc recorded by tap[e machine !! Easy and cool huh ??
Today we have studios with tape machines analogic system, but, very very expensive, $$$$$$$ money to do this recording sessions in a studer 2 inches machine??? No way, forget it !
Second option....Buy a portable digital recorder....
I have one, 8 tracks, good sound, but...always need more clarity and powerful on mixsdown...you need a good pre amplifier, tbe amplifier to conect ypours mics, and instruments...
Another problem is the price of a good one tube-pre-amplifier...
But, tge third option

Computer will be a necessary thing for us musicians recording our music in our homes and go to mix in a pro studio!
But have the guys which copy and paste samples, ok , electronic music, good too....
I dont have nothing against this people getting things pre-recordeds, copying, expanding and pasting music pieces..BUT, the real music come from your heart, you and your instrument...RECORDING THINGS IS ANOTHER QUWSTION...

I hope this software working, just working, because we musicians need a stable drivers for run this pro tools on ours computers, user reviews, more m powered user forums, whats happen when a pro tools work with a cheap audio card, audiophile 2496, cheap but good sound, what to do in this years of computer domination, back in 70.s , the only way to recording music was analog tape, yes, you play your instrument and the recorder only record the take, now, these days, we need learn "computer language" to make the same old thing, MUSIC .
Anyway, if thie multinational empires loke avid and others trying make computers and recording music walkin together, better this computer scientists make better things to work quickly, because before computers, have the person, we musicians, ypu know>? I need to compose, sing, play bass, open softwares, all together>? hahaha, its a joke, but i dont see another way on this days, if i rich, i buy a studer 2 inchs, and simply play record butom..yes, i know, you can click record buttom these days, but, when i need read all tecnics configurations of computer and sound cards to make music, im dissapointed, frustrating, because we musicians like to play, we dont like be computer engineer,

Sorry there is no free version for Windos XP, however <a href="http://www.digidesign.com/products/le/index.cfm?content=/products/sw/index_le.cfm">Pro Tools LE</a> and <a href="http://www.digidesign.com/products/hd/index.cfm?content=/products/sw/index_tdm.cfm">Pro Tools TDM</a> (both are currently version 6.7) will work on XP.
All Pro Tools 6.7 software requires a Digidesign-approved Pro Tools|HD, Pro Tools|HD Accel, Digi 002, Digi 002 Rack or Mbox system running on Windows XP or Mac OS X.
