Digidesign has no current plans for a free version of Pro Tools for either Mac OS X or Windows XP.
Avid have released a standalone version - Pro Tools 9

i'm a five year old. in computer years. in real life i'm nearly 40 years older, but i my little head would like to know if i can download Pro Tools onto my mac, which is presently running system 9. how do i found out if my computer can run this program

I'm sorry I wrote that comment so soon. After RE-BOOTING a couple of times, the program is running great. I can import waves and record midi and it SOUNDS GOOD. Thanks DigiDesign for this demo and again I apologize for my earlier comments.

I have filled out the e-form many times and it keeps denying me, telling me that I have entered bogue info. and need to fill out all required fields. I have done all of that and have no idea why it is tellinf me that I have enetered bogus info. I have not! Unless I don't know how to answer some of the questions correctly, like what digital sequencers do I have or use, and 1 or 2 more questions towards the end, that I don't have the knowledge to know whether or not I have and use one or not. I have Cakewalk Pro Audio Deluxe on my PC, and Digital Performer on my Mac. Band-in-Box and Power Tracks Pro Audio. ?????????

I couldn't import any waves or anything without it crashing or restarting my computer. What's Up With This Demo? If digidesign is going to give the offer, it should at least work first time out.
Something's up!!!
Every time I try and introduce an old WAV file the system shuts down as if I'd reset my computer. Does anyone have any suggestions 'bout this. Cheers anyway.

I get the same thing. I have yet to get it up and running a wave file. It locks up the computer every time. Now I know why I like Cake Walk.

Conflict Unity DS 1 & Pro Tools
I spent a lot of time installing Pro Tools 5.0.1 and when installed, it went in conflict with an old Demo (expired!)
of Unity DS 1. Now my PC is all fucked up. Thank you so much Digidesign! Archie

I just want to thank Digidesign for making it possible for up and
comming musicians to try out one of the worlds leading multi
track software systems without having to spend thousands of
dollars up front.
In the long run they'll get more customers by supporting
struggling musicians as more of us will be familiar with a system
we couldn't afford when we're starting out.

I fill out the complete Pro Tools questionnaire including my e-mail address and the program refuses to download saying I have to include my e-mail address. Is this some sort of joke?

you have to choose the state you come from: also if you don't even come from the states but from europe - like me. You get an error if you leave it blank. maybe this was your error, too?
as i still use Win95 I also cant't try ProTools.

ProTools is fairly functional

I live in London(UK)and suffered the same problem initially. However this is how I got round it.
When you complete the form leave the state box blank and submit the form. When the page comes up saying you haven't completed the form correctly type 'N/A' (without the punctuation marks) into the state box and submit the form again.

With an avatar like that you would think that since a reference to a luminescent source would indicate brightness, whether in physical energy state or Intelligence, that you would have better taste than to put down someone having difficulties downloading a program.
If you were reading carefully Shiva's message, you would have gleaned that he was in Europe and not an American. Many American sites accept only American information and/or North American in the form fillouts. Europe is not part of the States, Mr. Illuminatus. Canadian information was put on the site, so I had no difficulty downloading.
Shive didn't have problems downloading, it was because no European info was available to let him register. Obviously he downloaded it; the problems he was having had to do with the fact he had only Win95, when no warnings were posted on the manufacturers' site that it wouldn't work.
As for you, you have a lot of nerve insulting people you've never met without interpreting their message properly. As for your evident curt, condescending and belittling attitude in your message, it is obvious you seem full of your own importance, the level of which I can't register since I don't know you, but I do know that's an unbecoming attitude to have.
If you lived in any other place you wouldn't last a day. However, your views were clearly felt in your text. You've got an amazing way with words; you should be an author. Now you might consider taking some night classes to update your apparent oral etiquette shortcomings based on your message.
