Digidesign has no current plans for a free version of Pro Tools for either Mac OS X or Windows XP.
Avid have released a standalone version - Pro Tools 9

error -9073
Hello, can someone help me!
I receive the errorcode -9073, saying my disk is too slow or too fragmented. Is it really due to my PC or can I somehow fix this problem?

I found out about your problem while i was looking for a soulution to it. If you still haven't discovered the answer which i'm sure you have by, here's the answer from digidesign:
This means that the date/time on the on your machine is WAY OFF. Often the incorrect date/time can be caused by a system prefs/PRAM reset.Even if you already figured this out i hope this post can help someone else in search of this answer

MIDI out of sync
When playing an audio track with matching BPM to that of the Midi track, the Midi is delayed and out of synchronisation. How do you sort this time delay out? Is it my computer/sound card (PIII 500Mhz 128MbRam, 'Creative PCI 128 sound blaster')

I give up how do you get it in sync. I've got the same system except 256ram and i have mididelay. I run nuendo as well: midi delay not as bad but it's there.
I'm guessing it's a value in Pro-tools.

Can't import audio
I'm using Pro Tools Free (5.0.1?) on an imac OS9.0.4
When I go to the "import audio/track" window, it doesn't show any of my aiff and wav files! Any ideas?

You can find the Pro Tools Manual at Digidesign.com Then click on Support. Then Downloads. Then, near the top is the link for the "Technical Document Library". That's where all their manuals are posted. In PDF, mostly.

As I read upon downloading, it said something to the fact that Protools Free might not work with Sony Viao computers. Well, it dosnt with mine.
Could it possible be insificient ram? The exact message I get is, "DEA error - 6008 was encountered".

($9.95) The CD-ROM will include several RTAS and AudioSuite plug-in demos that are not included in the smaller electronic downloadable versions of Pro Tools FREE. These files would add significantly to the download time of the Web version. This will be available very soon!

computer crash
My computer crashes mainly when I do some effects to a recorded track eg. (i might add a long delay to a specific voice track and then it crashes and I loose all of my recordings).
Also on playback when it plays to the end of each recording block there is a loud noise when it hits the end of the block.
My specs are as follows:
Intel Pentium 3 667, chipset-VIA Apoolo Pro AGPset, 256 Meg PC-133 RAM, 8 Meg AGP video card, Soundblaster live Value sound card, colour monitor, Windows 98, 20 gig Seagate 5400 rpm hard drive.
Can you tell me how to solve this problem A.S.A.P.

Your hard disk is too slow. The recommended speed is 7200RPM.

I need a detailed explanation on how to fix my computer so it won't crash when I start it up. Please any tips would be fantastic.

I've run ProTools quite successfully on an AMD Athlon 800 with 655Megs Ram and a VIAKT133 chipset under 98 and ME. When troubleshooting ProTools crashes, keep in mind that programs running in background, terminate and stay resident programs, screen savers, network cards, and old Soundblaster drivers can cause hangs for example. When using it don't expect to do anything else with your system. After all, you want as much processing power available to get accurate recording. Good luck; it's really a great program once you get the kinks out.

Well, speaking as a professional computer programmer who used to be a professional recording engineer, I would just like to say that:
I downloaded a demo of Cubase - it works
I downloaded a demo of Sonar - it works
I downloaded a demo of Pro Tools - it doesn't work
Therefore I find your contention that Pro Tools is 'the best there is' hard to believe.

pro tools dosent suck if you have 5,00 dollers worth of hard ware to go with it. this isn't a good version of it at all and it sucks for pc if you want ot use this program get a mac and a digidesian sound card and a mixer
